Sep. 12, 2008 (China Knowledge) - Citibank (China) Co Ltd, one of the first foreign banks incorporated in China, said yesterday that it is very optimistic about its small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) business this year as the bank sees remarkable growth in the section.</p]
The U.S.-based bank is planning to expand its financial services unit for SMEs business through teaming up with enterprises such as guarantee companies or insurance companies, said Henry Zhang, managing director and executive vice president of Citibank (China), adding that the bank is striving to provide more innovative financial products and services to SMEs. </p]
The lender, which launched its commercial banking services in mainland China four years ago, has seen a favorable business achievement in the country despite market downturn that has brought damage to some SMEs due to the government's tight monetary policy and weaker external demand.</p]
Zhang noted at a press briefing that SMEs will regain their confidence, boosted by positive market changes recently, including the government's move to strengthen credit support to SMEs and increase tax rebate on exports as well as a slower appreciation of RMB. </p]
